Ireland has made itself look ridiculous. Official figures showed the Irish economy grew by an unbelievable 26pc in 2016 – more than three times faster than first thought. This was quickly dismissed by economists as “farcical”. Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman described the phenomenon as “Leprechaun economics”.
