There is an increasing number of Spaniards – not just Catalans – seeking political asylum within the EU. Everyone talks about the scourge of “populism”. We do not see Italians or Hungarians seeking political asylum. We do see journalists being murdered in Malta and Slovakia. Maybe it is time to change our focus with regard to what the dangers for democracy are in the EU.
