It is the same old story. While Keynesian economists and leftists are hailing the success of a centre-left coalition in Portugal purportedly defying austerity, in reality it is the same old Social Democrat sleaze and corruption (Yes , Portugal’s “Socialists” are members of the Party of European Socialists). And the comrade lefties ignore the wildcat strikes by the working class against their own unions, not to mention the financial tricks being used by the centre-left government to make their financial policy appear more progressive than it is. Europe’s political class is venal and discredited, thus it is no wonder people turn to populists and neo-fascists.
