The Guardian: Cloud of corruption hangs over Bulgaria as it takes up EU presidency

Among journalists there is a trick to getting controversial articles past the powers that be: wait until between Christmas and New Year. This is a real corker in the Guardian, explaining why despite the horrendous political situation in Bulgaria the EU is looking away. The conclusion is: “Sofia’s solid finances and predictability under the centre-right prime minister, Boyko Borissov, explain why Jean-Claude Juncker, the European commission president, wants Bulgaria in the eurozone and has called for it and Romania to “immediately” join the passport-free Schengen zone.”
