Price-adjusted sales in the German retail sector fell by 3.3 percent year-on-year in 2023 amid a recession in the country, according to preliminary figures published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday.
Compared to the record year 2021, turnover dropped by 3.9 percent, the figures show. In online and mail-order retail, sales even slumped by 12 percent in real terms.
