The purpose of “sanctions” on an individual is to enable the State to inflict severe penalties on ordinary citizens without having to go through the procedure of specifying a crime, and having to present evidence to a court, which could be challenged, etc. The “rule of law” is eliminated. The politicians can punish you, me, or anyone at their whim.
It’s not just the EU; the UK has also “sanctioned” Graham Phillips, with no criminal charge.
