Rodrik does not go far enough in his analysis. The problem is that the traditional Left, especially in Europe, has become completely corrupted. It has been occupied by opportunists who have one goal: getting rich. Rodrik is right; they have lost all credibility – and not only the Social Democrats. This is what makes a leader like Jeremy Corbyn so convincing: he has lived the life of the politics he propagates. His opponents can question his politics, but not the man. What about Clinton, Blair, Schröder?
