Richard Vague – A Brief History of Doom

This is a superb history of economic crises since the early 1800s till today, focusing on the issue we agree is the fundamental cause of such crises: a boom and then bust in private debt.

The video is a companion to his recent book, A Brief History of Doom, which I regard as a more than worthy successor to Charles Mackay’s Extraordinary Popular Delusions and The Madness of Crowds, and a far superior study of financial crises to Kindelberger’s Manias, Panics & Crises.

Richard has assembled a team of data experts to compile both the historical and statistical data behind this video. Go to https://www.bankingcrisis.org/ to download this data for yourself.
