The Guardian – Revealed: British university vice-chancellors’ five-star expenses

This is not a sensationalist titbit. Currently British academics are striking to protect their pension funds. Once again basic workers’ rights are under attacs. At the same time scandalously high salaries are being paid to vice-chancellors (the CEO of a university). This reflects a mentality that seems to permeate the whole of British society, that executives can help themselves at the costs of others. Interesting was a comment by the former finance director of now bankrupt Carillion that putting cash into the firm’s pension deficit was a “waste of money”. Every penny going into a pension fund is a penny less for executives and shareholders.
