Before the law, all people should be equal. Thanks to EU austerity and neo-liberalism, laws too have become a commodity, which one can buy, as in the case of Golden Visas. This allows rich foreigners to buy residency in an EU member state, giving them all the advantages of citizenship. In Portugal, the Social Democrats (who else!) with the right wings parties, are giving this a new spin by creating the Green Visa (500,000 Euros per person).
