In this talk Wolfgang Streeck will explain why the sovereign nation-state is the only democratic form of political organization in post-neoliberal capitalism.
Wolfgang Streeck was Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1988-1995) and Director at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne (1995-2014), where he is a Senior Research Associate working on crises and institutional change in the political economy of contemporary capitalism. His most recent books are Zwischen Globalismus und Demokratie: Politische Ökonomie im ausgehenden Neoliberalismus, Berlin: Suhrkamp, 2021, and Democracy at Work: Contract, Status and Post-Industrial Justice (with Ruth Dukes), Cambridge: Polity, 2022.
