Ben Wray: The Ministry for the Future – book review

Kim Stanley Robinson’s acclaimed climate novel (2020, Orbit Books) has been praised far and wide, from Andreas Malm to Barack Obama. Robinson tells a gripping story about what our near future may look like, underpinned by an optimism that climate cataclysms can be catalysts for political transformation.

Ben Wray explores the plot and key themes of Robinson’s tale, finding that the book is flawed but has much to commend it. Most of all, Ministry for the Future is an antidote to a doom and gloom attitude that presumes things can only get worse.
