The European Union has added the IRGC to its list of terrorist organisations following Iran’s crackdown on protests, marking a major political turning point. The unanimous decision reflects a push led by Italy, subsequently embraced by European partners and aligned with transatlantic allies. “Many IRGC members operate under diplomatic cover in Iranian embassies, engaging in intelligence activities and intimidation of dissidents in exile,” said Emanuele Ottolenghi (Centef). “Suspending diplomatic relations and expelling such personnel is also an option that should be considered.”
