Despite sanctions and the constant anti-Russian rhetoric in Germany, German exports to Russia increased 21% in 2017 compared to 2016. Among the exports were four power turbines sold by the German company Siemens and purportedly sent to a power plant in Russia near to Crimea. Not surprisingly they then ended up in Crimea to ensure a stable power supply for the peninsula’s residents. Siemens, for many years a member of Transparency International, has repeatedly been involved in massive corruption cases in the past decades.
